Emma Lynden - The Holiday Plan

The perfect Valentine's Day romance read.

About the book:

Coming off a disastrous split with her ex, Verona Scott is struggling for inspiration to write her next book. And she’s lost without her favorite Aunt Theoni’s wisdom and guidance.

Hoping for a fresh start and to avoid the glittery holiday completely, she’s planned a Valentine’s detox: a luxurious trip alone to the historic Courtington Castle hotel, near the adorably quaint town of Camelot Creek, tucked into a picturesque valley in the Adirondacks.

But escaping the heart-shaped balloons and red roses isn’t as easy as she thought.

This won’t be the restful retreat she’d imagined. Instead, she’s just walked into one of the biggest matchmaking events of the year. Not to mention, the incredibly attractive single dad and dating coach Troy Turner is heading the whole thing up, and he’s on a mission to include Verona in the festivities.

My review:

Such a lovely, layered romance from debut author, Emma.  Valentine's Day can be a divisive holiday but the opposing sides of the love story make for a really intriguing (and luxurious) plot.  Perfect for fans of the sweet happy-ever-after.  Will leave you with a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Lucy Mitchell - Instructions For Falling In Love Again

Heartachingly good, romantic comedy.

About the book:

Lonely widow, Pippa, discovers a collection of notebooks full of her late husband, Dan’s humorous advice on how to live without him. Pippa's notebook is red and contains his detailed instructions on how to fall in love again.

After fifteen years of marriage and three children, Dan believed he knew Pippa better than anyone else and was perfectly placed to give her his guidance when it came to matters of the heart.

My review

I absolutely loved this second-chance-love debut novel from Lucy Mitchell.  My heart was broken within the first couple of chapters, as I fully invested in Pip's tragic story, but was thankfully mended by the end of the novel, by a great cast of characters, including the bearded ballerina.

Fiona Leitch - Falling In Louvre

Romantic-Comedy

About the book:

Bertrand is King of the Pigeons…

Unofficially. From his perch atop a gargoyle on Notre Dame cathedral, he surveys his kingdom. He sees Sylvie Cloutier, art lover and ex-antiques dealer, making dinner for her bullying husband Henri, trapped in their loveless marriage like a bird in a gilded cage. He sees security guard, hopeless romantic and bookworm Philippe Moreau cycling through the streets of Paris in his crumpled uniform, late (again) for his night shift at the museum.

My review

I absolutely adored this quirky, heart-warming romance.  There was a deft sweetness about each character, and plausible plots with a madcap twist.  Definitely made me want to revisit Paris again.

Cara Devlin - A Heart Worth Healing

Historical Romance

About the Book:

When Ellie Lennox graduated from Boston University School of Medicine at the top of her class, she never imagined she’d end up a murderer…

Doctor Elliot “Ellie” Lennox defied society rules when she became a physician, but after a tragic mistake leaves her reputation in tatters, she has no choice but to travel west to the only place willing to have her: the rugged Rocky Mountain mining town of Sage Canyon, Colorado.

My review:

I don't usually read much historical fiction, but I was intrigued by this midwestern romance about a female doctor on the run for murder.  The balance between history and fiction was just right; I didn't feel like I was reading an essay, and I was quickly involved with Dr Ellie's situation and rooting for her.  Based on the true story of a female physician, that Devlin discovered during her research, A Heart Worth Healing is a perfect read for fans of the TV shows Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman and When Calls The Heart.

5/5

The second book in Devlin's Sage Canyon series, A Cure In The Wild, is due out in December 2021, and available for pre-order now on Amazon.
